Assam: Another Water Pipeline Bursts In Guwahati, Leads To Flood-Like Situation

Guwahati Pipeline Burst: While there were no injuries or casualties in the incident, reports said properties worth lakhs of rupees were damaged.

Another water pipeline of the Guwahati Jal Board burst on Monday, causing a flood-like situation at Rajgarh in Assam. The pipeline, which was recently installed, burst near Gauhati Commerce College in RG Baruah Road, leading to panic in the area.

While there were no injuries or casualties in the incident, reports said properties worth lakhs of rupees were damaged.

The water flow was brought under control after a team from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority arrived at the spot.

Videos showed the gushing water flooding the areas around it as vehicles waded through the waterlogged roads.

Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal said a high-level inquiry has been launched into the incident.

"Rushed to the spot immediately after the incident to take stock of the situation at Rajgarh and Gauhati Commerce College link road, where a drinking water pipe exploded causing some damage nearby," Singhal tweeted.

"A high-level inquiry is already in process...We will ensure that no such incident occurs in future. Such accidents are utterly unacceptable and I assure citizens that strict and prompt action will be taken in this regard," the minister further said.

AAP in-charge of northeast Rajesh Sharma said the public was saddened by the failure, inefficiency of the "corrupt" BJP government in providing drinking water to the people of Guwahati.

"The people of Assam will have to unite and uproot this corrupt government," Sharma tweeted.
