The flood situation in Assam is still grim as nearly 4.89 lakh people have been affected in 19 districts. One person has died in the Nalbari district in the last 24 hours. The total death toll due to flood currently stands at 2, as reported by the news agency ANI. A resident of Bajali district, who has been affected by the flood, said that there is continuous rainfall and there is no proper shelter. He further said that there is a shortage of food and drinking water.

"There is continuous rainfall and we don't have proper shelter. We are facing a lot of issues, there is a shortage of food and drinking water. There is no way to go to market to get essentials," the resident said, as quoted by ANI. The administration took the help of the NDRF, State Disaster Response Force, local people, trained volunteers and civil defence personnel in rescue operations in different districts.

  • According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 2.67 lakh people have been affected alone in Bajali district followed by 80,061 people affected in Nalbari, 73,233 people in Barpeta, 22,577 people in Lakhimpur, 14,583 people in Darrang, 14180 people in Tamulpur, 7,282 people in Baksa, 4,750 people in Goalpara district, as reported by ANI.

  • Altogether 35,142 people are now staying in 140 relief camps, while another 75 relief distribution centres are also functional, as reported by the news agency PTI.
  • Altogether, 10,782.80 hectare of cropland has also been inundated so far, the ASDMA bulletin said.
  • Many people have taken shelter on roads, highlands, and embankments. The ASDMA flood report also stated that 4,27,474 domestic animals have also been affected by the flood.
  • An embankment was breached in Biswanath, while damage to other such structures was also reported from the same sub-division as well as from Darrang and Kokrajhar districts.

  • Damage to roads and bridges was reported from several districts, including Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Majuli and Nalbari, as reported by PTI. Reports of erosion have been recorded in Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Udalguri and Tamulpur.
  • The ASDMA report said that landslides have also been reported from Karimganj. A Central Water Commission report on Friday evening said the Brahmaputra was flowing over the danger level in Nematighat (Jorhat).
  • The water level of the Puthimari and Pagladiya rivers have breached the red mark in Kamrup and Nalbari respectively, it added. The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued a 'yellow' alert for Friday, asking people to be on watch and remain updated for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in some parts of the state.
