Five people were shot in a gunfire incident near the University of Cincinnati campus in the early hours of Monday morning, resulting in the death of three people, police said.
According to a report in Associated Press, two people were taken into custody, including one of injured person.
“There were multiple firearms recovered at the crime scene and two subjects (one of which was also shot) are being detained at this time,” the report cited the Cincinnati police Capt Mark Burns as saying.
No further information was provided on the incident.
Earlier, the public safety department of the university posted on the social media handle X stating that police were responding to an emergency shortly before 3 am. The department later notified that it was a shooting and said “Be observant/take action as needed.” About an hour later, the department issued an “all clear” message and stated, “Police will maintain a heavy presence”.

As per the report of the Local news stations, officers who were patrolling in the area had heard multiple gunshots. Upon arrival at the scene of the shot, they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. They confirmed all five shots were men.
Cincinnati Police Department Captain Mark Burns said that five males were shot near Highland and East University avenues, which is less than a mile from the campus. The shooting incident occurred around 2:50 a.m., Burns informed the Cincinnati Enquirer, a part of the USA TODAY Network.
Three victims were transported to a hospital, where doctors later pronounced two of them dead, according to police spokesperson Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, who spoke to USA TODAY on Monday.
Another individual later arrived at the same hospital on their own for treatment of at least one gunshot wound. On Monday morning, two of the victims were in stable condition, Cunningham added.
