Kamala Harris Gains Narrow Lead In Approval Polls Against Trump After Biden's Exit From US Presidential Race

While US Vice-President Kamala Harris took a narrow lead in the national polls, 87% of Americans believed that US President Joe Biden's decision to forsake the bid for another term was the right move.

US Vice-President Kamala Harris showed a narrow lead against former President Donald Trump in a national poll released on Tuesday. This was the first poll to be conducted since President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign.

As per a Reuter/Ipos poll, Harris held a two-point lead over Trump, 44 per cent to 42 per cent. The poll was conducted two days after Biden decided to bow out of the presidential race and endorsed Harris in his place.

Harris who has been gaining endorsements, donations and pledged delegates narrowly trails Republican flag bearer Donald Trump a survey released on Tuesday said, according to the report. These results fall under the polls’ margin of error.

Similarly, in a PBS News/NPR/Marist poll that was conducted on Monday, Trump edges Harris with 46 per cent to 45 per cent while nine per cent are ‘undecided’, reported AFP. Trump and Harris tie at 42 per cent, if third-party candidates or independents are included in the contest.

The Vice-President’s performance in the polls was buoyed by excitement among the Democratic voters over the shakeup in the election race, which appears to neutralise the typical bounce a nominee receives after their party’s nominating convention.

Biden's decision to drop out was the right move according to 87 per cent of Americans, reported AFP citing the PBS News survey.

A majority of respondents, 41 per cent, believe Biden’s decision has increased the chances of Democrats winning, 24 per cent it has decreased the party’s chances while 34 per cent said it makes no difference.

If Harris wins this November election, she will be the first woman and first woman of colour to win the US Presidential Election, as per a report by The Guardian. During her first election rally, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Harris took a shot at Trump and said that the Republican presidential candidate is relying on support from billionaires and big corporations, while hers is a people-powered campaign, as per AFP.
