New Delhi: The United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA has been sealed after a lone man apparently holding a gun was sighted outside the venue, on Thursday, news agency AFP reported.

"The UN headquarters is closed, there is police activity," a UN spokesman told AFP.

"Due to a police investigation, avoid the area of 42 Street and 1st Avenue. Expect emergency vehicles in the surrounding area," the New York police department said on Twitter.

According to AFP report, images showed armed police surrounding a man standing on the pavement while holding something like a gun in his hand.

Earlier on Wednesday, there was indiscriminate firing at Michigan High School in America. In this firing, three students were killed, while 8 people including a teacher were injured.  The allegation of the attack is on a 15-year-old student who studies in the same school.  A pistol was recovered from the alleged attacker.

The officials also recovered several empty cartridges from the school.  US President Joe Biden expressed grief over this incident and said,''My condolences go out to the families who have lost themselves and suffered unbearable pain." Officials said police were notified at about 12:55 p.m. US time that a gunman was at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a suburb of north Detroit.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said a suspect had been arrested and a pistol was recovered from him.  The sheriff's office said they did not think there was more than one attacker.
