Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav Elected As Nepal’s Third Vice-President
Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the CPN-UML and Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party were beaten by Yadav, who had the support of Nepal's eight-party ruling coalition.
After voting for the top position came to an end on Friday, Ramsahay Yadav, a leader from the Madhes area, was chosen as the third Vice-President of Nepal, news agency PTI reported.
Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the CPN-UML and Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party were beaten by Yadav, who had the support of Nepal's eight-party ruling coalition.
According to The Kathmandu Post newspaper, Yadav, 52, of the Janata Samajbadi Party, received 30,328 votes from 184 federal and 329 provincial parliamentarians.
The official results have not yet been announced by the Electoral Commission. The article stated that he received support from the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, and CPN-Unified Socialist in addition to his own party.
According to the statement, Jha gained support from 23 federal and 15 provincial members, while Shakya earned support from 104 federal and 169 provincial MPs.
Once Nanda Bahadur Pun's term is over, Yadav, a Madhesi leader, will take over.
The majority of the Madhesi population in Nepal's southern Terai area are of Indian descent.
A candidate must receive at least 26,315 votes to win the election since the combined weight of the votes of the 550 members of the provincial assembly and the 332 members of the federal Parliament is 52,628.
Three vice presidential elections have been place since the nation switched to a federal democratic republic in 2008.
The vice president has a five-year term in office.
Who Is Ramsahay Yadav?
Ram Sahaya Yadav is a Nepalese politician and former Nepalese Minister of Forests and Environment.
Yadav joined the Nepal Sadbhawana Party in 1990 to begin his political career.
He played a key role in the first Madhesh Movement and served as the organization's initial general secretary (2007).
At the November elections of the previous year, Yadav was chosen to represent Bara-2 in the House of Representatives.
He was a representative in Nepal's first Federal Parliament. He received 28185 (50.01%) votes to win the Bara 2 seat in the 2017 general election in Nepal.
