Plane skids off runway into river in Jacksonville, Florida

The flight had been coming from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

New Delhi: It was a close shave for passengers travelling in Boeing 737 commercial jet in Florida on Friday night as a plane with 136 onboard, skid-off the runway and landed into river. The incident took place near the city of Jacksonville in Florida, United States. The Boeing 737 commercial jet ended up in the St John's River after landing at about 9.40pm Friday, local time, according to a spokesman for Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Speaking on the incident, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the plane was "not submerged" and that everyone on board "is alive and accounted for". A photo posted by deputies shows a Miami Air International logo on the plane. Crews are trying to control jet fuel on the water. As per reports, the passengers were evacuated safely and were provided with first aid. The flight had been coming from Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. More details on the same are awaited.
