Pakistan | Police Broke My Room Door & Arrested Capt. Safdar: Maryam Nawaz After Massive Opposition Rally Against Imran Khan Govt

Tens of thousands rallied in Pakistan on Sunday along with the People Democratic Movement in Karachi as a part of a campaign to oust Imran Khan, who they allege of being installed by the military in a rigged 2018 election.

New Delhi: Following the massive protests staged by an alliance of opposition parties against the Imran Khan government on Sunday, Safdar Awan the husband of Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been arrested from the hotel they were staying in at Karachi. "Police broke my room door at the hotel I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar," Maryam Nawaz wrote on Twitter. Reason behind arrest: Though an official statement is not out yet and it is also not clear whether the Safdar's arrest has been made with regard to an FIR that was lodged yesterday at Brigade police station by the PTI government representatives against Maryam, Safdar Awam and their "200 goons" for violating the "sanctity of Quaid's Mazar Under Quaid-e-Azam's Mazar Protection and Maintenance ordinance 1971". On the way to Bagh-e-Jinnah garden, Maryam had made a stopover visit at Quaid's mausoleum on Sunday. Retired Captain Safdar had chanted the PML-N slogan "vote ko izzat do (honour the vote)" and urged people to join him. Government representatives condemned the move by saying that 'the sanctity of Quaid's Mazar has been disrespected'. Massive rally of opposition parties seeking ouster of Imran Khan: The PML-N vice-president lashed out at Prime Minister Imran Khan and the PTI government at second power show of 11-party opposition alliance People Democratic Movement (PDM) which was attended by thousands of people. Tens of thousands rallied in Pakistan on Sunday along with the People Democratic Movement in Karachi as a part of a campaign to oust Imran Khan, who they accuse of being installed by the military in a rigged 2018 election. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice presidents Maryam Nawaz and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chairman Mehmood Achakzai and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman were among the leaders of opposition parties who attended the rally. The PPP also invited Mohsin Dawar, who heads the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), to address the gathering at the Bagh-e-Jinnah.
