Missing Indian-American Student Found In Texas Amid Safety Concerns

At least 11 Indian and Indian-origin students have been found dead in the US in 2024.

An Indian-American student who went missing was found on Tuesday. The incident is the latest in a string of cases pertaining to the safety and security of Indian students in the United States. According to the Frisco Police Department in Texas, Ishika Thakore, 17, was last seen on Monday. She had disappeared from her home on Brownwood Drive and was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and red/green pajama pants. This incident sparked concern as several Indian students who went missing were found dead later.

According to an India Today report, at least 11 Indian and Indian-origin students have been found dead in the US in 2024. After Ishika disappeared, the Frisco Police Department issued an alert. In a post on social media platform X, the Frisco Police Department said, "Frisco PD is seeking assistance in locating 17-year-old Ishika Thakore, last seen Monday, Apr 8 at 11:30p in the 11900-block of Brownwood Dr. in Frisco. She is approx 5’4” and 175 lbs, last seen wearing a black, long-sleeve t-shirt and red/green pajama pants".

Ishika was found safely after a search effort by the authorities. After the Indian-American student was located, the Frisco Police Department, in a statement, said, "LOCATED - The 17-year-old who was the subject of our Critical Missing Alert from earlier today has been located. We'd like to thank everyone for the offers of assistance and words of support," said the Frisco Police Department in a statement, as quoted by India Today.

In another incident, a 25-year-old Indian student who had been missing since last month was found dead in the US city of Cleveland, as reported by news agency PTI. This was the second death within a week as the community grapples with a string of such tragedies. Mohammad Abdul Arfath, hailing from Nacharam, Hyderabad, arrived in the US last year in May to pursue a Masters in IT from Cleveland University.
