Meet 98-Year-Old Woman Offering To Join Ukraine's Military To Fight Russian Invasion

In one such case, a 98-year-old World War II veteran was ready to protect her nation once more, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

New Delhi: As Ukraine retaliates against the Russian invasion, stories of citizens volunteering to protect their war-torn country provide a ray of light in these sad times.

While the majority of the globe can only pray for the safety of the people living in the East European country, a few people have opted to take on the task of resisting Moscow.

In one such case, a 98-year-old World War II veteran was ready to protect her nation once more, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Her offer to join the Ukrainian army, however, was turned down by the authorities due to her age.

Taking to Twitter, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes, "98 y.o. Olha Tverdokhlibova, a WWII veteran, faced war for the 2nd time in her life. She was ready to defend her Motherland again, but despite all the merits and experience, was denied, though, because of age. We are sure she will celebrate another victory soon in Kyiv!"

The post has received over 3,800 likes and several replies. Netizens applauded Olha's courage and wished her a long life.

Russia Ukraine Conflict

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began about a month ago, an estimated 6.5 million people have been displaced within the nation, while another 3.2 million have fled owing to safety concerns.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had previously rejected the US offer to evacuate Kyiv to safety, has garnered worldwide acclaim for spearheading the struggle against Russia's attack. Many ordinary citizens have also volunteered to join the military in order to assist the country in its fight against heavyweight Russia.
