King Charles Coronation: Know The Schedule And Where To Watch It Live

The coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla has been planned to be a grand event with all rituals being given a specific time. Here's the schedule of the event.

King Charles III and The Queen Consort Camilla Rosemary Shand will be crowned the new monarch of the United Kingdom in a grandeur ceremony for the first time in nearly 70 years. The last coronation ceremony was held in the UK in 1953. After Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September, Charles Philip became the King while her wife became the Queen Consort. The event will be attended by around 2,200 guests from across the world that include several head of the states, royal family members and others. 

Schedule Of Coronation 

The Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, 6th May 2023. Their Majesties will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as 'The King's Procession'. 

The King and The Queen will be crowned at Westminster Abbey at 4:30 PM IST, in the first Coronation Service in almost 70 years. 

After the Service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family. 

Upon returning, The King and The Queen will receive a Royal Salute in the Garden of Buckingham Palace from the Armed Forces taking part in the Processions on the day. 

The King and The Queen, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will then appear on the Buckingham Palace Balcony for the Flypast and the conclusion of the day’s ceremonial events.

Key Timings 

The coronation ceremony will begin at 1000 GMT, following a procession from Buckingham Palace. It is set to be shorter than that for his mother 70 years ago, at about two hours long compared to almost four hours. 

A much larger procession will depart the Abbey, made up of armed forces from Britain and across the Commonwealth. The king and queen will travel in the gold state coach, which was commissioned in 1760. 

Key Timings 

3:30 PM IST:  Procession of Faith Leaders and Ecumenical Leaders through Westminster Abbey 

3:45 PM IST:  Procession of Commonwealth Realms through Westminster Abbey 

3:50 PM IST:   Their Majesties’ Carriage Procession, known as The King's Procession, leaves Buckingham Palace 

4:23 PM IST:   Their Majesties’ carriage arrives at the Great West Gate of the Abbey. The State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry, stationed in the Abbey, will sound a fanfare as Their Majesties arrive at the West Gate to Westminster Abbey.  

4:24 PM IST:    The Abbey bells are rung 

4:30 PM IST:    The Coronation Service begins 

6:30 PM IST:    The Coronation Procession departs Westminster Abbey. The Abbey bells will ring. 

6:40 PM IST:    The members of the royal family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch a fly-past of military planes and helicopters belonging to the British Army, Navy and Airforce. 

 

Where To Watch Live 

The Royal Family YouTube Channel will broadcast the entire ceremony live. Apart from this, several international TV channels, including the BBC, ABC News, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC, will telecast this event on their different broadcasting platforms. 

 

How Long Will The Coronation Last  

According to CBS News, the coronation is expected to be about two hours. After the ceremony, the king and queen consort will climb into the Gold State Coach, a gilded, horse-drawn carriage that is more than 200 years old, for another procession back to Buckingham Palace. The procession will last about 30 minutes. 

Charles and Camilla will then receive a royal salute from the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Armed Forces in the Buckingham Palace gardens.
