India Slams 'Fake Tweet' Attributed To EAM Jaishankar On Sri Lanka Becoming 'A State Of India'
Sri Lanka: The fake tweet comes amid the request of providing a bridging aid from Sri Lanka to India as the country awaits a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
New Delhi: The Government of India has clarified that a tweet by India’s Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar that is floating on social media claiming that India wants to make Sri Lanka a part of its own is fake. The Indian government also said that the claims made in the tweet are wrongful.
There is a tweet that is going viral on social media that says that India is willing to proclaim that Sri Lanka becomes a part of the State of India if the people of Sri Lanka find it agreeable. In return, India will resolve the food and fuel scarcity in Sri Lanka and will take care of the future issues too, the fake tweet claimed.
The tweet which appears to have been posted by Jaishankar’s official account says, “If the people of Sri Lanka are agreeable, India is willing to proclaim Sri Lanka becomes a State of India. As a result, India will be able to solve gas, fuel, milk food, fertilizer and many other essential goods problems that the country is facing. Additionally, India will look after all the future issues of Sri Lanka too. India is extending an hand of survival to people of Sri Lanka.”
The fake tweet comes amid the request of providing a bridging aid from Sri Lanka to India as the country awaits a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On Wednesday only, India announced a 500 million dollar additional aid to Sri Lanka to buy fuel. India has already provided a one billion dollar credit line to the country along with a 500 million dollar aid.
India has also sent petrol and diesel to the country which is going through the worst ever economic crisis in its history.
