'I'm Sorry, I'm Desperate': Man 'Mistakenly' Tries To Rob His Son Outside ATM In Scotland, Arrested

The 17-year-old boy went to the ATM to withdraw 10 pounds. After collecting the cash, he saw a hooded man dressed in dark clothing with a snood over his face lurking nearby.

New Delhi: A man tried to rob a teenage boy in Scotland’s Glasgow, unaware that the target was his son, BBC reported. The incident took place last November when a 45-year-old masked man tried to rob the boy at an ATM in Glasgow’s Cranhill.

According to the report, the 17-year-old boy went to the ATM to withdraw 10 pounds. After collecting the cash, he saw a hooded man dressed in dark clothing with a snood over his face lurking nearby.

Sharing details of the incident, prosecutor Carrie Stevens, as quoted by BBC, said, “As he put his card in his pocket and took the cash from the machine, he turned left and felt something against the left side of his face. He was pinned up against the wall by the neck. The boy felt a large kitchen knife pressed against his face.”

The hooded man then demanded the money. However, the boy recognised his father’s voice and was left stunned.

''Are you serious? Do you know who this is,'' the boy asked. When the attacker said he didn't care, the teenager pulled down his snood and asked, "What are you doing," to which the man responded, "I'm sorry, I'm desperate."

The boy then fled the spot and narrated to his family members the incident before informing the police. The man was subsequently arrested and later he confessed to his crime.

"I didn't know it was him at the cash machine. I have done it. I will do the time for it,'' he said while admitting a charge of attempting to rob the boy.

Sheriff Andrew Cubie, who sentenced the man to 26 months, told the court, "These are an extraordinary set of events."
