Suspect Who Shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson Caught On Cam Flirting With Hostel Staffer

On November 29, he left the hostel and then used a fake New Jersey driver’s license to check back in on November 30 in the same hostel.

A flirtatious conversation and cryptic message on bullet casings is helping the New York Police Department narrow down the suspect who shot and killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a hotel in midtown Manhattan.

According to CNN, the man was captured on CCTV when he had lowered his mask and smiled during a flirtatious moment between him and an employee of a hostel on New York’s Upper West Side. This has been an important clue for the police as it revealed his face for the first time.

Aside from this, as per CNN, the police now know that the suspected travelled on a Greyhound bus that started from Atlanta city, however, the authorities are unsure whether it took the bus from the city or somewhere in between. He was captured on CCTV getting off the bus at 9 pm on November 24 in Manhattan. The suspect arrived 10 days before the shooting.

However, on November 29, he left the hostel and then used a fake New Jersey driver’s license to check back in on November 30. It is believed he stayed at the hostel in a multi-person room and there were two other males with him in the room.

Police have managed to get one fingerprint off a water bottle that the suspected gunman may have left behind at the crime scene — but it’s smudged, making it less conclusive. When he fled the scene the suspect may have dropped the bottle and a phone near the crime scene.

The authorities are not analysing surveillance footage to trace the suspect’s movements in New York City. In one video the suspect is seen on West 55th Street prior to the shooting, while another recording seems to show the suspect on West 85th Street at approximately 7 am (local time) on Wednesday.

As per reports, investigators found 9 mm shell casings at the scene with the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose”. This could be criticism of health insurers’ practices to evade paying claims, sparking speculation about whether Thompson’s involvement in healthcare made him a targeted victim and if the suspect’s motive was linked to grievances within the industry.

The 50-year-old CEO Thompson took the charge of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021. He first joined UnitedHealth Group in 2004 and had previously served as CEO of the company's government programs, including Medicare and retiree coverage, and community and state programs providing Medicaid and other types of coverage to millions of individuals.
