A substantial police presence will continue in the vicinity of Elvaston Lane in Alvaston, Derby, where the fight happened on Sunday, according to Derbyshire Police.

After a "large scale disturbance" at a kabaddi event featuring the British Punjabi community in the East Midlands region of England, three individuals were wounded, one severely, news agency PTI reported. A substantial police presence will continue in the vicinity of Elvaston Lane in Alvaston, Derby, where the fight happened on Sunday, according to Derbyshire Police. Large people disperse in alarm as gunshots are fired and tales of a sword, hocky sticks-wielding assailant spread on social media during the athletic event. The event is thought to have been caused by a fight between two rival gangs.

“We were called to a large scale disturbance in Elvaston Lane, Alvaston at 15:51 on Sunday 20 August,” Derbyshire Police was quoted by PTI in its report.

“Three people have been injured, one seriously. They have all been taken to hospital. There is a large police presence in the area and officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time,” the statement reads, urging for witnesses to come forward if they have information about the incident.

The event on Sunday, according to 'Derby World,' brought together expert players from throughout the UK for the England Kabaddi Federation's championship, which consisted of a series of matchups. Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara Kabaddi Club, the local Derby squad, has been playing the sport for almost 30 years.

While speaking with local media outlet ahead of the tournament, Vice president of Guru Arjan Dev Gurdwara Kabaddi Club Kully Chhokar stated: “Kabaddi is traditionally an Indian based sport. Now it is definitely more of an international game. Yes it is a day of competition, but it is also an exciting day out for people watching the game, and the sports’ players too. People can enjoy the game and watch the action and get to see it first hand, cheering their teams on."

However, commotion ensued as thousands arrived to enjoy a day of sport.
