New York’s Iconic Empire State Building Lit Up In Orange To Mark Diwali; See Pics

The high-rise building shared the photo of its illuminated structure in orange hues on all its social media handles, and got desi folks on the internet very excited, as the image was shared by multiple accounts.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is not just a Hindu festival, but now has become a worldwide phenomenon. To celebrate the festival of lights, the iconic Empire State Building was lit up in orange to celebrate making Diwali special for people in New York.  The Empire State building situated in heart of the New York city of the United States of America, joined hands with the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, after which the iconic landmark commemorated the special Hindu festival, which is celebrated by Indians with full fervor around the globe. However, this is not the first time that the iconic landmark was lit up to celebrate Diwali. This is the third year the iconic landmark turned orange for Diwali, a ritual that began in 2018. The 102-story building that sits in the heart of New York City was erected in 1931 and earned its name by the nickname of the New York estate. Named in the seven wonders of the modern world, the building has been seen in more than 250 TV shows and movies.

It is also worth mentioning, the craze of Diwali is rising in the US, as many as 3.1 million Non-resident Indians (NRI) stay in the US, which alone constitutes 1 per cent of the country’s population. Other than the NRIs, the Hindu population in the US is the world’s eighth largest,  10% of Asian Americans who together account for 5.8% of the US population, are followers of the Hindu faith. As Diwali is getting global, the festival has earned the status of a national holiday in more than 11 countries across the globe. In August too, the iconic building was lit up with the Indian tricolor to mark Independence Day.
