Angela Merkel Likely To Impose Partial Lockdown As Germany Faces Second Wave Of Coronavirus; More Than 14K Cases Reported Recently

With the sudden surge in the number of Coronavirus cases in the past days, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is likely to impose a partial lockdown in the country to control the further spread of the novel infection. Germany's disease control agency 'Robert Koch Institute' reportedly stated that 14,964 new cases were recorded across the country in the past days, pushing the toll to 449,275 since the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus. The country also registered 27 COVID-related fatalities taking the total to 10,098. Witnessing the surge in the number of infected patients and fatalities in the country, Marker on Wednesday met governors of Germany's 16 states and urged the officials to introduce measures to drastically reduce social contacts. At the same time, she also appealed citizens to follow the norms of social distancing and contribute in the fight against COVID-19. If the partial lockdown in imposed again, restaurants and bars are expected to shut while there will be strict limits on private and public gatherings. Though schools, daycares and shops may remain open, several educational institutes are preparing to shift at least some of their teaching online, in anticipation of nationwide shutdown. Due to the second wave, night curfew has been imposed in some countries, and in some places situations like Lockdown and Emergency have returned.
