Fire Erupts On Full Delta Flight Engine At US Airport, Passengers Quickly Evacuated

Delta passengers evacuated via emergency slides at Orlando Airport after an engine fire on an Airbus A330. The FAA and the airline are investigating the incident.

The passengers from a Delta Air Lines flight were evacuated down emergency slides onto the tarmac after one of its engines caught on fire at Orlando International Airport on Monday morning. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Delta Air Lines said in their statement that the full Airbus A330 plane bound for Atlanta had just departed its gate to fly when a fire was reported in one of the two engines.

According to CNN, the FAA has launched an investigation into the incident. There were 282 passengers on board, no passengers were reported injured.

Maintenance teams will examine the aircraft in an effort to determine the cause of the fire, Delta said.

A large ball of orange flames was seen coming out of the right engine on a cell phone video captured, a passenger in the terminal.

“Delta flight crews followed procedures to evacuate the passenger cabin when flames in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines were observed,” the airline said, as per the report.

“We appreciate our customers’ cooperation and apologize for the experience. Nothing is more important than safety and Delta teams will work to get our customers to their final destinations as soon as possible,” the airline said, according to CNN.

Delta will transport the affected passengers to their final destinations using alternate aircraft, while maintenance crews conduct a thorough examination of the plane involved in the fire incident.
