'All Land Borders Are Open': Iran As India Requests Safe Return Of Stranded Students

Tehran has asked Indian authorities to provide details of the evacuees, including names, passport numbers, vehicle specifications and intended travel times.

Amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, Tehran on Monday responded positively to India's request for assistance in evacuating Indian citizens, particularly students stranded in Iranian cities. While Iran's airspace remains closed due to ongoing military action, the Iranian government has assured that all land borders are open and available for safe passage.

In an official response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed its cooperation with India’s diplomatic mission, granting permission for the evacuation of both diplomats and civilians. "Given the current condition and the closure of the country's airports, as well as the request of many political missions to transfer their diplomats and nationals abroad, we inform that all land borders are open for crossing," NDTV reported citing an official statement.

Provide Details Of Students: Iran To India

Tehran has asked Indian authorities to provide details of the evacuees, including names, passport numbers, vehicle specifications, intended travel times, and chosen border crossings, to its General Protocol Department to facilitate safe and coordinated exits.

Over 1,500 Indian students, many from Jammu and Kashmir, are believed to be stranded in Iranian cities such as Tehran, Qom, and Shiraz. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that efforts are underway to ensure their safety, with some students already being relocated to safer locations within the country.

“The Embassy of India in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran. Other feasible evacuation options are also under examination,” the MEA said in a statement.

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has also issued an advisory urging nationals to remain calm, limit unnecessary movement, and follow updates on official channels. It provided helpline numbers and shared a Telegram link for real-time updates.
