All 4 Indians Accused Of Hardeep Singh Nijjar's Murder Granted Bail By Canadian Court

The four accused Indian citizens - Karan Brar, Amandeep Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh - were booked for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The four Indian nationals, accused of killing pro-Khalistan Sikh radical Hardeep Singh Nijjar, have been granted bail by a Canadian court.

The four accused Indian citizens - Karan Brar, Amandeep Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh - were booked for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

While Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, were arrested from Edmonton in May last year, Amardeep Singh, a resident of Brampton in Surrey was held few days later.

The trial of the four accused has now been shifted to the British Columbia Supreme Court and the next hearing has been scheduled for February 11. The bail was granted to the four accused due to the lack of evidence, sources said.

The accused had submitted an appeal for bail to the Canadian Supreme Court, which was later accepted. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, was killed outside a Gurdwara on June 18, 2023, in Surrey, British Columbia.

The relations between India and Canada came under severe strain after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September 2023 of a potential involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Nijjar.

The investigation into the Nijjar's killing led to a major diplomatic row between Canada and India in October last year after the then Justin Trudeau government dragged the name of Sanjay Kumar Verma in the investigation, following which the Indian government withdrew the High Commissioner and other diplomats from the country. New Delhi also expelled six Canadian diplomats, including Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler.

India has strongly rejected all the allegations made by Ottawa in connection to the case and subsequently recalled the High Commissioner. The Canadian government had said the Indian diplomats were expelled from the country.
