21 Injured As 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits China's Shandong
Twenty-one people were injured after a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck China's Shandong province on Sunday. The earthquake also led to the collapse of 126 buildings.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck the eastern Chinese province of Shandong on Sunday and left 21 people injured. According to the state broadcaster, 126 buildings also collapsed during the earthquake. The depth of the earthquake was registered at 10 kilometres under the surface. It jolted Pingyuan County of Dezhou City at 12:03 am (IST) on Sunday, as per the China Earthquake Networks Center. Following the earthquake, China Railway Group suspended some train operations on the routes that included the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Beijing-Kowloon Railway, reported news agency Reuters.
Earlier on July 29, an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter Scale jolted India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 12:53 AM, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake monitoring agency said that the earthquake at a depth of 69 km and was located at a latitude of 10.75 and a longitude of 93.47. In a tweet, it said, "Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.8, Occurred on 29-07-2023, 00:53:47 IST, Lat: 10.75 & Long: 93.47, Depth: 69 Km, Location: Andaman Islands." Fortunately, no casualties or damage to property was reported.

In another similar instance, an earthquake of magnitude of 5.3 hit the Southeast of Campbell Bay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as recorded by the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake which hit Campbell Bay struck at 7:39 PM, at a depth of 70 km. "Earthquake of Magnitude:5.3, Occurred on 09-07-2023, 19:39:09 IST, Lat: 5.87 & Long: 94.83, Depth: 70 Km, Location: 162km SE of Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar island, India," the NCS had tweeted on its official handle.
