Triumph street cup India launch not in 2016
NEW DELHI : Through a teaser image, Triumph Motorcycles India confirmed that it will launch the Bonneville T100 in India on October 18, 2016. The image was released shortly after the bike made its debut at INTERMOT 2016, where the Street Cup was unveiled as well. This lead many, including a few publications, to believe that the café racer would be launched with the T100. We’d like to confirm that this isn’t the case and the Street Cup isn’t coming to India this year.
While the Street Cup will be launched in India, the time frame hasn’t been specified, though it can be expected in the first half of 2017. The latest addition to Triumph’s ‘modern classic’ family, the Street Cup is based on the Street Twin. It features a more aggressive ride stance than the Street Twin and the seat height is 30mm higher as well. Mechanically, though, you still get the same ‘high-torque’ 900cc, parallel twin engine that makes 55PS of power and 80Nm of torque.
The primary differentiator is, of course, the café racer styling. Highlights include an Alcantara-effect bullet seat with a removable rear seat cowl, bar-end mirrors at either end of the ‘Ace’ style handlebars and a body-coloured fly screen. Additionally, it sports Thruxton R-styled foot pegs, gold-coloured engine badges, and black indicators with old-school amber lenses. While the packaging is retro, you still get modern tech like ABS, switchable traction control, a USB charging port, an LED taillight and an immobilizer.
In the UK, the Street Cup retails for £8,600 (approximately Rs 7.28 lakh) and when launched in India, prices could start at Rs 8-8.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
