Skoda Kodiaq in India by late 2017
New Delhi: Once the genie is out of the bottle, there’s no stopping it. After the Skoda Kodiaq was teased by the Czech manufacturer recently, we can now confirm that the SUV will be launched in India by late 2017. The car will be seen in flesh for the first time in Berlin, where it is set to make its global debut on September 1, later this year.
The car is based on Skoda’s Vision S concept, which is also expected to be the design language of all its future vehicles. More images of the SUV on the road, though camouflaged, were released as a part of Skoda’s promotional activities with the Tour de France and gave a clearer picture of what to expect from the forthcoming SUV.
The side profile of the Kodiaq reminds you of the Audi Q7 while the front resembles the Volkswagen Tiguan international SUV. The Skoda measures 4.7m in length and sports large rear overhangs. It will feature a foldable third row of seats with Skoda also claiming segment-leading boot space.
Like the new Superb, launched earlier this year, expect a range of infotainment, assistance and connectivity systems to make their way into the Kodiaq. Capacitive touchscreens could be seen across the range, while Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SmartGate and MirrorLink will be available as standard on higher variants (optional for the entry-level ‘Swing’ infotainment system).
The Kodiaq is set to share its powertrain options with other Skoda cars in terms of the three petrol and two diesel mills. Front wheel drive comes as standard, with transmission options including a six-speed manual gearbox and DSG automatics.
This new SUV will sit alongside the new Superb in Skoda’s Indian portfolio. Thus, expect the Kodiaq to be priced between Rs 23 lakh to Rs 30 lakh once it lands on Indian shores.
