Prophet Remark Row: Superstores In Kuwait Remove Indian Products From Shelves | Watch

Saudi Arabia has issued a statement condemning the controversial statement made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma about Prophet Mohammad.

New Delhi: Amid a row grew on Monday over a BJP official's remarks about the Prophet Mohammed, the supermarkets in Kuwait pulled Indian products from their shelves, as reported by the news agency AFP. Iran also become the latest Middle Eastern country to summon the Indian ambassador. Islamic countries have expressed their protest over the remarks of two BJP leaders on the Prophet Muhammad, Qatar, Kuwait and Iran today summoned the Indian embassy and conveyed their objection. Calls are being made in many places on social media to ban Indian products. 

However, the Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended Nupur Sharma from the party.

"We, as a Kuwaiti Muslim people, do not accept insulting the Prophet," Nasser Al-Mutairi, CEO of the store, told AFP. An official at the chain said a company-wide boycott was being considered.

Apart from these, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), an organization of Muslim countries, has also expressed displeasure.

In an attempt to defuse a controversy sparked by purported statements made by its spokesperson against Prophet Mohammed, the BJP stated on Sunday said that it respects all religions and vehemently condemns insults to religious personalities.

In the midst of a controversy over BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's statements, party general secretary Arun Singh stated in a statement that the party is vehemently opposed to any philosophy that degrades or demeans any sect or faith.

Nupur Sharma has been booked over her remarks on Prophet Muhammad during a television debate. A case has been registered at the Pydhonie Police Station area in Mumbai under sections 295A, 153A, and 505B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after a complaint by Raza Academy, a Sunni Barelvi organisation of Indian Sunni Muslims, for her "remarks on the Holy Prophet on a National channel", news agency ANI reported. 

After a video of Nupur Sharma's remarks during a TV debate on the Gyanvapi mosque case went viral, the BJP spokesperson claimed that the clip was heavily edited.
