Nepal: 8 Kerala Tourists Die Of Asphyxiation In Daman Resort

KATHMANDU/HETAUDA: Eight Indian tourists from Kerala who were holidaying in Nepal’s Daman were found dead in their hotel room, reports said. The incident took place in Everest Panorama resort which is located in Daman, Thaha Municipality of Makawanpur district. “The group of Indian tourists comprising two couples and four children were found unconscious in a suite of Everest Panorama Resort in Daman this morning,” The Himalayan Times quoted Head Constable Suman Dhakal at Simbhanjyang-based police post as saying. As per details, the tourists died of asphyxiation after using gas heater in their room. The deceased - two couples and four children - were part of a group of 15 people travelling from Kerala to Pokhara, a popular mountainous tourist destination. They were on their way back home and stayed at Everest Panorama Resort in Daman in Makawanpur district on Monday night, reported PTI. "We are yet to identify the name of the deceased. They were using gas heater in the room, suffocation might have caused their death." SP Sushil Singh Rathore of District Police Office, Makwanpur was quoted by news agency ANI. The manager of the resort said that all the windows and the door were bolted from inside. The tourists who reportedly were in an unconscious state were airlifted in a chopper to HAMS Hospital in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu where they were declared brought dead by doctors. The Indian mission has assured all necessary assistance to the family members of the victims. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Malayali tourists in Nepal. On the directions of the chief minister, officials have taken steps to expedite procedures for the repatriation of the mortal remains of the victims, his office said.
