Mulayam Singh Yadav Passes Away: From Lohia Movement To Being 3-Time UP CM — Know About SP Founder

Mulayam Singh Yadav Demise: The 82-year-old former Uttar Pradesh chief minister had been an seven-time parliamentarian who also served as Defence Minister from 1996-98 in the United Front government.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party (SP) passed away this morning at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital due to multiple organ failure, sources told ABP News. "My respected father and everyone's leader is no more," official Twitter handle of Samajwadi party posted quoting Akhilesh Yadav as saying. 

The 82-year-old former Uttar Pradesh chief minister was receiving treatment while being Medanta Hospital for the past few days. He was admitted to Medanta's intensive care unit on October 2 when his health worsened. According to sources, Yadav was having respiratory problems and was being treated at a hospital in Haryana by Internal Medicine expert Dr. Sushila Kataria. He was under treatment at the hospital since August 22. 

Facts About Mulayam Singh Yadav

- Mulayam, who was born on November 21, 1939 in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, started his career with wrestling as his father Sudhar wanted to make him a wrestler.

- Mulayam Singh Yadav, who took an active part in the Lohia movement, founded the Samajwadi Party on October 4, 1992.

- Mulayam was younger than Ratan Singh and elder than Abhay Ram, Shivpal, Ram Gopal Singh and Kamala Devi among his five siblings. 

- Mulayam has served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three non-consecutive terms and was also Minister of Defence from 1996-98 in the United Front government.

- He was a long-serving parliamentarian who was serving as the Member of Parliament for the Lok Sabha constituency from Mainpuri till his death. He previously served as the Member of Parliament for Azamgarh and Sambhal constituencies.

- Mulayam, often referred to as Netaji, was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh in 1967.

- Mulayam was a member of the Legislative Council from 1982-1985. He had been a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly eight times.

- Mulayam Singh married Malti Devi for the first time. Akhilesh Yadav is the son of Mulayam and Malti Devi. Mulayam's second marriage took place with Sadhna Gupta. Prateek Yadav is the son of Sadhna and Mulayam. 

- According to the affidavit submitted during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mulayam Singh Yadav was the owner of assets worth more than 15 crores. While filing his nomination, in the affidavit, he had declared his movable and immovable assets as Rs 16 crore 52 lakh 44 thousand 300. However, earlier in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Mulayam Singh had declared assets worth Rs 11 crore in his affidavit.
