Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur Takes Oath As Chief Justice Of Andhra Pradesh High Court

Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur succeeded Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, who was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on Friday was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The oath of office was administered by Governor S Abdul Nazeer in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Justice Thakur's appointment to the esteemed position comes after his recent selection by the Central government, having served as a judge of the Bombay High Court.

Justice Thakur assumes the role following the elevation of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra to the Supreme Court, leaving the Chief Justice position vacant since May 19.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Thakur's appointment on July 5, marking a significant milestone in his judicial career.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including cabinet members, the leader of the opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu, high court judges, and senior officials.

A distinguished legal expert, Justice Thakur holds an LLB degree from Jammu University and embarked on his legal career in 1989. He commenced his advocacy at the Bar Council of Delhi, with his enrollment later transferring to the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir in 2010. In 2013, he assumed the position of judge at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, and in June 2022, he was transferred to the Bombay High Court, where he served as the senior-most judge.

The establishment of the Andhra Pradesh High Court dates back to January 1, 2019, through a Presidential Order, following the bifurcation of the state.

On Sunday, Justice Alok Aradhe was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Justice Aradhe succeeds Chief Justice Bhuyan, who has since been elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.
