'This Is The Power Of Brij Bhushan': Vinesh Phogat Amid Row Over Wrestler Being Taken To WFI Chief's Home

Phogat was reported to have been accompanied by woman police officers, as per sources.

The Delhi Police on Friday brought wrestler Sangeeta Phogat to the official residence of the former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to reconstruct the incident that resulted in the alleged sexual harassment, news agency PTI reported.

Phogat was reported to have been accompanied by woman police officers, as per sources.

"At 1.30 pm women officers took Sangeeta Phogat to Brij Bhushan's official residence in Delhi. They were there for half an hour. They asked her to recreate the scene and recall the places where she faced harassment," sources was quoted by PTI reported.

According to officials, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Delhi Police that is investigating two cases of sexual harassment against the President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh, is expected to present its findings in court by next week.

According to Delhi Police officials, over 180 individuals have been interviewed by the SIT as part of their inquiry.

Some of the most renowned wrestlers in India, such as Vinesh Phogat who won gold at the Asian Games, along with Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, were among the protesters who urged for the arrest of Singh. The reason behind their demand was the accusation of sexual harassment made by seven female wrestlers, one of whom was a minor.

Slamming WFI Chief, wrestler Vinesh Phogat tweeted: "This is the power of Brijbhushan. He is busy harassing women wrestlers by using his muscle power, political power and running false narratives, so his arrest is necessary. If the police arrests him instead of breaking us, there is hope of justice, otherwise not. Women wrestlers had gone to the crime site for police investigation, but it was run in the media that they had gone to compromise."

Following their meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, the wrestlers who had been protesting have decided to put their movement on hold until June 15th. This comes after reassurances from Thakur that a charge sheet against Singh will be submitted by that date, and that WFI elections will be conducted by the end of the month.

Singh has been charged with two FIRs by the Delhi Police.
