'Mahila Bewakoof Banao Bill': AAP Slams Centre Over Women's Reservation Bill, Calls It Another 'Jumla'

AAP MP Sanjay Singh called the bill another 'jumla' and said that the women and political parties understand that these are election tactics.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government over the issue of the Women Reservation Bill and said that this is a 'Mahila Bewakoof Banao' Bill. AAP MP Sanjay Singh called the bill another "jumla" and said that women and political parties understand that these are election tactics. He said that if the Centre wants to implement this bill in 2024, then AAP will stand by it. He further stated that there is no point in bringing a bill that will probably be passed in 20–25 years.

Centre on Tuesday introduced the long-pending bill to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies on which the House will debate on Wednesday and Sonia Gandhi would lead from Congress’s side. The bill proposes that the reservation will continue for a period of 15 years and a quota will be reserved for women from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe within the seats reserved for women.

"This is definitely not a Women's Reservation Bill, this is 'Mahila Bewakoof Banao' Bill. We have been saying this because none of the promises made by them have been fulfilled ever since PM Modi came to power. This is another 'jumla' brought by them...If you want to implement the Bill, AAP stands with you completely but implement it in 2024. Do you think the women of the country are fools? Anti-women BJP has brought one more 'jumla' in the name of the Bill. Women of the country, political parties understand these election tactics. So, we say that if their intentions are clear, implement it in 2024," Sanjay Singh said.

Singh also said that the women will not be able to get reservation if the conditions like delimitation and Census will be enforced. "If the Narendra Modi-led government is interested in doing good for women and if their intentions are pure, then they should amend the bill a bit, remove the time limit, and implement it in 2024. What is the point of bringing a bill that will probably be passed in 20–25 years. How will the women get reservation when you enforce conditions like delimitation and census," Singh said.
