A Look At States That Have Reimposed Lockdown As India's Covid-19 Tally Surges Past 9 Lakh-Mark
As coronavirus cases continue to rise in India, many states have resorted to using partial lockdown to control the spread of the virus.
New Delhi: The cases of coronavirus continue to rise in India and the total number has breached the 9 lakh mark. According to the latest health ministry data, 28,498 new cases have emerged while 553 deaths are reported in the last 24 hours. It takes the tally of positive cases to 9,06,752 including 3,11,565 active cases, 5,71,460 cured/discharged/migrated and 23,727 deaths.

With such high numbers, states are struggling to control the spread of the virus and are resorting to using partial lockdowns.
Karnataka: As cases increased in the state the government announced partial lockdowns in areas with a high concentration of cases. A 9-day lockdown has been announced for the capital city Bengaluru where COVID 19 cases are spreading fast. The lockdown will begin from 8 PM on July 14 to 5 a.m. on July 22. According to media reports lockdown for two other districts in the state- Dakshina Kannada and Dharwad- has been announced. Dakshina Kannada will see a 7-day lockdown from July 15 night to July 21. There will be a 10-day lockdown in Dharwad district from July 15 to July 24.
Maharashtra: The state with the highest number of Covid 19 cases is also imposing partial lockdowns. Pune has started a two-phase, 10 days lockdown from Monday, July 13 to 23. The first five days will see strict restrictions on movement including shutting down of all shops including grocery shops. After five days relaxations will be given but online deliveries will be shut till July 23. Other cities in the state are also imposing similar lockdown. According to a report by Hindustan Times Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Aurangabad, and Solapur will be under lockdown till July 19.
North-East states- Nagaland has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown which was supposed to be lifted from July 16 to July 31. Meghalaya is on a two working day lockdown. Similarly, in Assam Guwahati will be lockdown till July 19, and in Arunachal Pradesh Itanagar and nearby areas will be in lockdown till July 20. Shillong in Meghalaya has been on lockdown since yesterday, July 13 and it will continue till 6 AM, July 15
Kerala: The state government in view of the rising cases has imposed a triple lockdown especially in the coastal containment zones. This lockdown will continue till 6 PM on 23rd July, it started on 13th July 6 AM. These regions are Manikyavilakam, Poonthura, and Puthenpally wards under the Thiruvananthapuram corporation; Chavara and Panmana in Kollam; Pattanakkadu, Kadakkarappally, Cherthala South, Mararikulam North, Kuthiyathodu, Thuravoor and Arattupuzha in Alappuzha; Chellanam in Ernakulam; Veliyamkodu, Perumbadappa, and Ponnani and Tanur municipalities in Malappuram.
West Bengal: The state has also imposed a 7-day lockdown in containment zones from July 9. No vehicles (private or state-owned) are allowed on the road and business except those dealing with essential commodities will remain shut. Uttar Pradesh: After holding a 55-hour lockdown during the weekend starting from July 10 till July 13, the UP government has decided to continue the measure on all weekends until further notice. During the mini lockdowns, shops and businesses except those dealing with essential commodities will remain shut. There will also be restrictions on vehicular movement.
Bihar: After the state recorded a huge surge in the number of cases, the Bihar government decided to impose a complete lockdown starting from July 16 till July 31. According to the new notification, Offices of the Central, state government, their Autonomous/Subordinate offices, and Public Corporation wings will remain closed with exceptions for essential services like home guards, civil defense, fire and emergency services etc. Shops and businesses except those dealing with essential services will be shut. The government has also decided to close religious and educational institutes in the state.
