West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee, Amit Shah In 2014 TET Candidates List, Board Says Genuine Candidates

The list shows West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has scored 92 marks while Suvendu Adhikari got a perfect 100.

As investigation into the teachers' recruitment scam picks up pace in West Bengal, a fresh row erupted on Monday as names of prominent West Bengal politicians and public figures featured in the merit list of 1.25 lakh candidates who appeared in the 2014 Teachers Eligibility Test (TEST), according to ABP Ananda.

The list shows West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has scored 92 marks while Suvendu Adhikari got a perfect 100. CPIM leader Sujan Chakraborty fell one short of scoring full marks, while TMC's Abhishek Banerjee managed to scored 98 marks, reported ABP Ananda.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former TMC and education minister of the state Partha Chatterjee, BJP State President Sukanta Majumder and Dilip Ghosh are some other names to also feature in the TET result list.

The incident has prompted strong reactions from opposition leaders. BJP Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar slammed Mamata Banerjee's government for the poor quality of education and said "corruption is high" in the state.

Taking to Twitter Majumdar wrote, "This is the level of education and assessment in West Bengal. Corruption is high and education and assessment is poor."

"Sad state of affairs. When did @MamataOfficial stop playing with life of candidates?" Majumdar added.

West Bengal Board of Primary Education has, however, denied any wrongdoings.

Board president Goutam Paul, whose name also figures on the list said, "they are all names of a genuine candidates," reported ABP Ananda.

Meanwhile, the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Kolkata rejected the bail petition of seven accused in the recruitment scam including former Minister Partha Chatterjee. The accused will remain behind bars till November 28.
