No Respite For Bengal And Odisha, Heatwave Alert For Jharkhand & Meghalaya — Weather Updates

Weather Updates: The IMD predicted that the heatwave conditions will continue to affect normal life in southern West Bengal till at least April 30.

There is no respite for several states in North India as scientists have warned that the heatwave conditions will continue in the coming weeks. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings in several states including West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.

The hilly states of Meghalaya and Uttarakhand have also issued weather advisories for the coming days. Delhi-NCR region on Friday received thunderstorms and moderate rain amid scorching heat.

Here is all you need to know about the weather forecast across the country:

- The Meghalaya government has asked educational institutions across the state not to organize any outdoor activities or sports to avoid the ill effects of the ongoing heatwave on children. School Education & Literacy Director Swapnil Tembe said the advisory was issued to ensure the safety and well-being of students amid the heatwave which is affecting the entire state, especially in the plains of Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts.

- The IMD predicted that the heatwave conditions will continue to affect normal life in southern West Bengal till at least April 30. The abnormally high maximum temperatures in the southern and western districts of West Bengal are being caused by dry westerly winds and strong solar insolation.

- Severe heatwave conditions will prevail over Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Birbhum, Bankura and Jhargram districts in West Bengal. Meanwhile, the heatwave conditions will prevail over the other districts in south Bengal till April 30.

- There seemed to be no respite from the hot and humid weather conditions in Odisha, with 12 places recording temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius on Friday. The IMD stated that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by two degrees Celsius at many places in Odisha in the next 48 hours.

- Although IMD has not included Bengaluru in the list of heat wave affected areas, the city does satisfy one of the heat wave conditions – the departure from normal temperatures by at least 4.5 degrees, said A Prasad, a scientist at IMD Bengaluru.

- The temperatures in Jharkhand has exceeded 40 degrees Celsius across most areas of the state. The meteorological department has issued a heatwave alert for Kolhan, Santhal, and North Chotanagpur divisions until April 29.

- Scientists have predicted more than normal rainfall in the monsoon this year in Uttarakhand. Director of Dehradun Meteorological Centre Dr Bikram Singh said that the chances of a 'higher than normal' monsoon this year are more than 60 per cent, so all departments should keep this in mind.
