'Ye Lo Aazadi': Man Opens Fire In Delhi’s Jamia Ahead Of Anti-CAA Protest March
Jamia Firing Incident: The man brandishing the gun has been arrested by the police and his identity is being verified.
New Delhi: An unidentified person opened fire in Jamia Nagar area ahead of the anti-CAA protest march on Thursday, in which a student of the Jamia Millia Islamia University identified as Shadab Alam has been injured. The man brandishing the gun has been arrested by the police and his identity is being verified.
The injured has been rushed to Holy Family hospital for treatment.
The one who fired bullets shouted "I will give you azaadi (freedom)”, said an eyewitness at the spot.
Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) is holding a protest march against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register for Citizens (NRC) from Jamia to Raj Ghat. After the women protesters in Shaheen Bagh announced their proposed march, Delhi Police were alerted to the plan. Police conveyed to the march's organisers in clear terms that permission would not be granted due to fears over law and order. On the other hand, the protesters maintained that they had planned a peaceful march to the Rajghat on the death anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi and dubbed it "murder of basic human rights".Delhi: The student injured after a man brandished a gun and opened fire in Jamia area today.
