Viral Sach: Now WhatsApp admins to face legal action if they do not get registered?

A viral message claims that the administrators of the groups will have to get themselves officially registered and failing that makes them liable for police action. Viral Sach finds out the truth.

New Delhi: A message that can perturb Whatsapp users is doing rounds on the social media according to which the admins of the different groups on the messaging application need to get their groups registered officially. The message claims that the administrators of the groups will have to get themselves officially registered, failing what makes them liable for police action. The message states that the District Magistrate of Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind has issued an order making registration of the group mandatory. The message is being widely circulated on different platforms and soon many posts also emerged on Facebook announcing that the last date of the registration is October 15, and people who don’t get registered within the stipulated time will have to face legal consequences. To check whether the message is true or is just another one of the social media hoaxes, team Viral Sach reached Bhind and approached the District Magistrate and Collector Ashish Kumar. Kumar informed that the message is only for the media groups which need to get themselves registered with a person fixed by the department. He said this is just so that the authorities can keep up with the information beimng diseeminated via different media groups. The local media-persons, however, were critical of the “diktat”.
