In an official statement issued on its website on Tuesday (November 3), the Embassy said, "As a precautionary measure the Austrian Embassy New Delhi will remain closed to the public until 11th November 2020. We ask for your understanding."
Meanwhile, the Indian Mission in Austria asserted that they were in touch with authorities and keep a track of the safety of the Indian community in Vienna. Taking to its official Twitter handle, the Embassy said, "The Embassy would like to assure the Indian community in Vienna that we are in touch with authorities for your safety. All are advised to exercise caution since terrorists may still be at large."
The advisory came a day after multiple shootings took place in six different locations in Austrian capital Vienna on Monday. As per reports, one of the gunmen was shot dead by police who said they were hunting for at least one more attacker still at large.
Reacting to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday tweeted saying, "Deeply shocked and saddened by the dastardly terror attacks in Vienna. India stands with Austria in this tragic time. My thoughts are with the victims and their families."
The attack is a grim reminder of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks where a series of co-ordinated attacks were similarly carried out at multiple locations, though at a much larger scale.
