Akhilesh Yadav Takes Swipe At BJP, Says Ruling Party Only Knows ‘Jeebh Chalana’ And ‘Jeep Chadhana’

Speaking about the crucial 2022 UP assembly election, Akhilesh Yadav said that the polls would decide the direction of national politics and would also be a testing time for democracy.

New Delhi: Taking yet another swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday commented that the ruling party only knows “jeebh chalana” (lip service) and “jeep chadhana” (mowing down people).

He also claimed that the BJP government’s tenure was “full of failures”, news agency PTI reported.

“The truth is the BJP knows only two things -- 'jeebh chalana' (lip service) and 'jeep chadhana' (mowing down people). Crushing people and suppressing their voice is their (BJP) agenda,” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said while addressing workers at the party headquarters in Lucknow.

He further claimed that the BJP government’s tenure was “full of failures”, alleging that the state lagged behind with runaway inflation and high unemployment because of “wrong policies” of the ruling party.

“The entire tenure of the BJP government was full of failures. Due to the wrong policies of the BJP government, Uttar Pradesh lagged behind and there was no control on inflation, unemployment. The law and order also got worse," a party statement quoted Akhilesh as saying.

He also alleged that “the BJP government has not done any work in public interest. The BJP is a strange party which is making tall claims without doing anything. The double engine government of the BJP has harassed every section of society and has not done anything itself but has been appearing in advertisements claiming the works of the Samajwadi Party government as its own”.

Speaking about the crucial 2022 UP assembly election, the SP chief said that the polls would decide the direction of national politics and would also be a testing time for democracy.

Besides this, Akhilesh Yadav also cautioned party workers on “possible conspiracies” of BJP, saying: “We have to be careful of the possible conspiracies of the BJP. Since the BJP is very clever, this time there should be no mistake and SP workers and leaders need to mobilise themselves up to the booth level”.

He went on to declare that people’s problems will end and the interest of farmers and youths will be protected only when SP forms a government in the state.

The Lakhimpur Kheri violence, which drew widespread condemnation, claimed the lives of eight people including four farmers.

BJP leader and Union Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish was arrested in connection with the case last week after he was accused of mowing down farmers with his vehicle. The minister defended his son, claiming him to be “innocent”.

Ashish and others have been named in the FIR filed in this case.
