UP Law Minister Meets Families Of BJP Workers Killed In Lakhimpur Violence, Skips Visiting Kin Of Deceased Farmers

UP Law Minister Pathak had said that the matter is sub-judice and advised opposition parties not to politicise the issue.

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh Law Minister Brajesh Pathak on Thursday met the families of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3, 2021, reported ANI. However, the minister is yet to meet the families of deceased farmers.

Earlier, while assuring the people that justice will prevail in the Lakhimpur Violence incident, UP Law Minister Pathak had said that the matter is sub-judice and advised opposition parties not to politicise the issue.

On October 3, violence erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri after two SUVs allegedly ran over a group of anti-farm law protesters who were demonstrating against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at Tikonia-Banbirpur road. The violence has claimed 8 lives so far. Farmer leaders alleged that Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra's son was in one of the SUVs which allegedly ran over the protesters.

In this regard, the police have arrested five people including Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra's son Ashish Mishra.

Recently, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the crime branch office in Lakhimpur arrested Ankit Das, the nephew of a former Congress MP, late Akhilesh Das. Ankit was said to be present in the car which was behind the SUV that knocked down four farmers. As per the latest updates, Ankit Das was sent to judicial custody till October 22, 2021.

Meanwhile, Congress has once again reiterated its demand to sack Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni for a free and fair probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

A Congress delegation, led by its former president Rahul Gandhi, and comprising leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, A.K. Antony and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, met President Ram Nath Kovind on October 13, 2021, to put forth the demand.
