UP: 6 dead, 41 injured after New Farakka Express train derails in Raebareli's Harchandpur

For the rescue operation, NDRF teams from Lucknow and Varanasi have reached the spot.

NEW DELHI: Nine coaches of Farakka Express train derailed near Harchandpur railway station in Raebareli on Wednesday morning. As per initial reports, six people have been killed and 41 people injured in the accident. The injured have been rushed to the district hospital in Raebareli. The incident occurred at around 6 am in the morning when the train number 14003 derailed. All up and down lines on the route have been blocked and officials suspect that the number of casualties may rise. Rescue operations were being handled by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Allahabad and Varanasi, who were rushed to the scene of the accident, the official added. An NDRF team from Lucknow was expected shortly. At least 13 trains have been diverted or short terminated following the accident, news agency IANS reported. An eye-witness at the spot told ABP News, "the incident took place at around 6:05 am. We had come here for jogging and saw the the train overturned. Lot of people crying in pain. Locals began the rescue operation, help from the administration came after 30 minutes." According to the passengers, the train derailed after a loud noise. People from nearby villages were first responders on the accident site. CM Yogi Adityanath condoled the loss of lives in the train derailment and directed the DM SP the health authorities and NDRF to provide all possible relief and rescue at the site. He also announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the deceased and Rs 50000 for the seriously injured. Railway Minister has also directed to effectively undertake relief & rescue operation & provide best possible medical help to the injured. He has ordered an inquiry which will be conducted by Commission of Railway Safety. PRO railway Deepak Kumar told that the train was coming from Malda to Delhi. He also said that those injured will be assisted first and then the coaches will be removed from the tracks. Reports said the death toll was expected to rise as several have been critically injured.
