Twist in Paytm case: While talking to ABP News Sonia Dhawan and Roopak Jain’s family members said that this is a case of professional rivalry by Paytm chiefs Vijay Shekhar and his brother Ajay Shekhar. The family is demanding a CBI investigation in the case.

NEW DELHI: The family of the Paytm employees who was arrested on Monday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 20 crore from the e-wallet giant's founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma after threatening to leak stolen personal data and information, say that Sonia Dhawan and Roopak Jain are falsely being framed in the case. The Noida police had arrested Paytm's vice president Sonia Dhawan (32), her husband Roopak Jain (38) and another company employee Devendra Kumar (30) for allegedly stealing personal information and confidential data and threatening to leak it. While talking to ABP News Sonia Dhawan and Roopak Jain’s family members said that this is a case of professional rivalry. The family is demanding a CBI investigation in the case. Describing all charges against Sonia as baseless, Sonia's sister Rupali Dhawan said that Sonia, who had an annual salary package over Rs 70 lakh, had reached this position on her own after 10 years hard work. She also said that around one and a half month ago, she was promoted to the post of Vice President of Paytm. The family also questioned Nodia Investigation in the case asking why is the fourth associate and ex-employee Rohit Chomal, who lives in Kolkata, still absconding. The family revealed that Sonia Dhawan had received an exhortation call from an unknown number. The person threatened to kill her and family if she failed to pay the ransom amount of 5 crores. The family says that they filed an FIR in Noida Sector 39 Police Station on September 22 but no action was taken. When Sonia denied doing so she was framed in the extortion case. Ajay Shekhar Sharma, Paytm founder’s brother and senior vice-president of the company, had said “She and her husband came up with the plan to steal private and financial information. They roped in a senior manager in the administration section of the company, Devendra Kumar, who then approached one of his acquaintances, Rohit Chomal, a resident of Kolkata, to blackmail us.” Paytm had earlier confirmed in a statement that the Noida Police arrested three people, including a woman employee, reported news agency PTI. "The employee along with two other accomplices attempted to extort money from Vijay Shekhar Sharma on the pretext of leaking his personal data. We are standing by our colleagues till the police enquiry reaches its meaningful conclusion," the company said.
