'To Save Country, Democracy, Time To Get Rid Of PM Modi': Leaders Speak In One Voice At Oppn Meet

Leaders of various parties at the opposition meeting in Bengaluru called the huddle successful and termed the exercise important to save the democracy and the country.

The second day of the crucial mega opposition meeting took place in Bengaluru on Tuesday where leaders of around 26 like-minded parties have come together to strategise against the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking in one voice, the leaders here hailed the meeting as successful and said that it was time to get rid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They said that it was important for the parties to unite to save the country and democracy.

Here's Who Said What

Mallikarjun Kharge: The Congress President said that his party is not eyeing power or the post of prime minister. "Every institution is being turned into a weapon against the opposition. CBI, ED, and Income Tax are routinely used. False criminal cases are filed against our leaders so that they get caught in the legal process. Constitutional authorities are used to suspend our MPs. MLAs are being blackmailed or bribed to move to BJP and topple governments," Kharge said, as per ANI.

"We are aware that at the state level, there are differences between some of us. These differences are not ideological. These differences are not so big that we cannot put them behind us for the sake of the common man and the middle class, for youth, for the poor, the Dalit, the adivasis, and the minorities, whose rights are being crushed silently behind the scenes."

He further added, "Our intention is not to gain power for ourselves, it is to protect Constitution, democracy, secularism, social justice."

Arvind Kejriwal: Delhi CM said that it was time to get rid of PM Modi.

"...PM Modi got a chance to rule the country for the last ten years and he has made a complete mess of almost every sector in the country.  He has created hatred amongst the people, the economy is in shambles, there is so much inflation, so much unemployment in all sectors. Now I think, it is time that the people of this country want to get rid of him, so everyone needs to come together," he added.

Mehbooba Mufti: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM and PDP chief said that the way our Constitution and democracy are being disobeyed, all the opposition parties need to come together to save the idea of India.

Akhilesh Yadav: Former UP CM and Samajwadi Party chief said, "The (Opposition's) meeting is important to save the country and its people. Two-third of India's population is against the BJP. We are all united to remove the BJP."

Mamata Banerjee: West Bengal CM, who also took part in the meeting, said, "This is a good, fruitful meeting. Constructive decision will be taken..." She added, "Today what we discussed, the outcome after this may be good for the people of this country."

Tejashwi Yadav: Bihar Deputy CM said that they all have come together " to save the country's democracy, constitution and diversity".

Lalu Yadav: RJD supremo called the opposition huddle ‘important’ and said, "We have to save the country and our democracy."

Mrityunjay Tiwari: RJD leader said that the meeting of so many opposition leaders is proof that opposition unity is successful.

Omar Abdullah: The NC leader said that the Constitution has been eroded and the secular fabric of the country is undermined. "It's important we put up a united stand against everything going wrong," he added.
