Congress President To Address Public Meeting In Telangana
Telanga will see major developments this week as BJP leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister A Chandra Shekhar joins the Congress on August 18 at a public meeting, an IANS report stated. The event will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Shekhar, who was in BJP, will be returning to Congress after 2.5 years. Before joining the BJP, he was in TDP and later in TRS (now BRS). He left BJP, saying that he was not being given his due recognition. He joined the saffron party in 2021 after quitting Congress.
At the meeting, Kharge will unveil the Congress's declaration for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The party is likely to increase the reservation quota in the state if it is voted to power, reported IANS. The Congress has said that the reservation would be proportional to their population.
Telangana CM KCR To Attend Multiple Public Meets
While the Congress tries to woo the SC/ST voters in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will visit the Medak and Suryapet districts as part of his engagement in various development initiatives.
On August 19, the Chief Minister's agenda includes a trip to Medak, where he will formally open the Integrated District Collectorate complex and the Superintendent of Police's office. He will also inaugurate the BRS party office in the district.
Moving on to August 20, KCR is set to visit Suryapet. During this visit, he will unveil the Integrated District Collectorate complex, the Superintendent of Police's office, and the recently constructed medical college within the district. Following these inaugurations, he will proceed to inaugurate the BRS office and then deliver a speech at a public gathering.
KCR, who earlier won the Medak Lok Sabha seat, resigned from the constituency before forming the state government in 2014. He is now aiming for a third term in a row as the CM, a feat no one has achieved so far in southern India.
Tamil Nadu CM Stalin To Speak Address Fishermen's Issues
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin is scheduled to participate in the Tamil Nadu fishermen's conference in Ramanathapuram on August 18. The conference, organized by the Tamil Nadu Fishermen Association, aims to denounce the recent attacks on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. The event will focus on vital concerns like fishermen's livelihoods, arrests, and the confiscation of their boats.
Tamil Nadu's Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan announced the Chief Minister's attendance in a statement last month. Stalin accepted the invitation to address the conference, highlighting the urgency of addressing the ongoing challenges faced by fishermen. This announcement coincided with the arrest of nine Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy on the same day.
In correspondence to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar earlier, Stalin expressed his deep concern and disappointment over the persistent arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, despite recent diplomatic appeals. He recalled his call for diplomatic action during the Sri Lankan President's visit to India, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue and a comprehensive solution to safeguard the rights and livelihoods of Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen.
Stalin urged Jaishankar to intensify diplomatic efforts for the release of detained fishermen, the return of confiscated boats, and the establishment of a mutually acceptable resolution for fishing rights in the Palk Bay region. Despite high-level interactions between the two nations, the situation on the ground remains unresolved, making sustained diplomatic efforts crucial.
