Tanzil Ahmed murder case: UP police arrests slain officer's relative
New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested one person in their investigation into the murder of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed.
Citing personal enmity as the reason behind NIA officer's murder, police has arrested one of his close relative Rihan.
According to sources, Rihan, son of Ahmed's brother-in-law was riding motorcycle, while the other bike-borne assailant, Munir, allegedly fired shot at the officer.
Rihan has admitted before police that he was riding motorcycle when shots were fired at Tanzil Ahmed, said sources.
Police has made the arrest with the help of local intelligence while Munir is still absconding. The motive behind murder of Ahmed is still unclear, said police.
According to ANI, police sources revealed that the conspiracy to kill NIA Deputy SP was hatched in his village Sahaspur (Bijnor). Police sources also said the bike used in murder has been recovered and 'land matter' is suspected to be the reason behind his assassination.
Ahmed, an assistant commandant with BSF who was on deputation in NIA, was returning to Sahaspur from the wedding of his niece when two unidentified bike-borne assailants stopped his car and shot at him.
His wife was also injured in the incident while his two children, on the back seat of the car being driven by the deceased, were safe. Ahmed's wife was admitted to Fortis hospital in Noida and was under observation.
