TADA Court Acquits Abdul Karim Tunda In 1993 Serial Bomb Blast Case Due To Lack Of Evidence

A TADA (Terrorist & Anti-disruptive Activities Act) court in Ajmer's Rajasthan on Thursday acquited 1993 serial bomb blasts' main accused Abdul Karim Tunda.

A TADA (Terrorist & Anti-disruptive Activities Act) court in Ajmer's Rajasthan on Thursday acquited 1993 serial bomb blasts' main accused Abdul Karim Tunda. The court aquitted Tunda due to lack of evidence. Two other accused identified as Irfan alias Pappu and Hamiruddin have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The lawyer appearing for Tunda told ANI that the CBI could not produce any concrete piece of evidence before the court in TADA, IPC, Railway Acts, Arms Act, or Explosive Substances Act.

Advocate Shafqat Sultani told ANI, "Abdul Karim Tunda is innocent, today the Court gave this judgement. Abdul Karim Tunda has been acquitted in all Sections and all Acts. CBI prosecution could not produce any concrete piece of evidence before the court in TADA, IPC, Railway Acts, Arms Act, or Explosive Substances Act. We had been saying that from the beginning that Abdul Karim Tunda is innocent...Irfan and Hamiduddin have been convicted & quantum of the sentence will be pronounced shortly..."

Tunda, a resident of Pilkhua in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh has been acused in multiple cases in connection bomb blasts. Earlier, in February 2023, Tunda was also aquitted by a trial court in Haryana in the 1997 twin Rohtak bomb blast cases due to lack of evidence.

Tunda was caught from near the India-Nepal border in August 2013. Tunda is known as Lashkar-e-Taiba's bomb expert and was also sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the 1996 Sonipat blast case and with a fine Rs 1 lakh. Tunda is also said to be closely associated with Dawood Ibrahim. He is currently lodged in Ajmair Jail and will continue to be behind bars as he is accused in several other cases.
