Southwest Monsoon Covers Entire Country After Delay Of Five Days: Meteorological Department

Meteorological Department said that the southwest monsoon has reached the entire country on July 13 with a slight delay from its usual date of July 8.

Monsoon: The southwest monsoon covered the entire country on Tuesday after a delay of five days, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). Usually, the Southwest Monsoon reaches the entire country on July 8. On Tuesday, it rained in many parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). Thereafter, the Meteorological Department announced the arrival of the monsoon in Delhi.

"In the last 4 days, due to the movement of moisture-rich easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, the cloud cover increased, and rain occurred at many places. The Southwest Monsoon has advanced further and has reached the rest of the country including Delhi, the rest of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan," IMD said. 

Monsoon In Delhi

The Meteorological Department said: "The southwest monsoon has reached the entire country on July 13, with a slight delay from its normal date of July 8."

At the same time, the Southwest Monsoon finally reached Delhi on Tuesday morning, giving some relief to the people from the scorching heat. The officials of the Meteorological Department have said that the monsoon reached Delhi with a delay of 16 days from its normal time. This is the biggest delay in the arrival of monsoon in the last 19 years. In 2002, the monsoon reached Delhi on 19 July.

Madhavan Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, tweeted, "The monsoon has finally reached Delhi. The India Meteorological Department was waiting for the announcement of the arrival of the monsoon despite the formation of monsoon conditions for the last two to three days. In the last 2 days, it rained everywhere except Delhi."

Normally monsoon reaches Delhi on 27th June and covers the entire country till July 8. Last year, the monsoon reached Delhi on June 25 and covered the country on June 29.
