Uttar Pradesh: Wife Of Senior Govt Official Creates Ruckus At Police Station After 'Pet' Dog Goes Missing

The wife of a senior government official created a commotion at the Shikohabad police station in UP's Firozabad after the dog she had adopted went missing.

The wife of a Deputy Commissioner Savings in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad on Thursday allegedly created a ruckus at the Shikohabad police station after her pet dog went missing. The woman, Mamta, wife of Prabhat Misra, alleged that no action had been taken to find her pet dog, an Indie named ‘Beer’, even after she lodged an online complaint.

Prabhat Misra, a former Block Development Officer at Civil Lines in Firozabad, lived at the government residential campus, from where the dog went missing a few days ago. The couple had gone home during the Diwali holiday, directing his staff to take care of the two dogs — Dollar and Beer. However, on returning after Diwali, they found Beer, aged around 6 years, missing.

Mamta first lodged an online missing report. However, when there was no response from the police, she went to the police station and created a ruckus, demanding that her pet be rescued immediately. Officials living on the campus, however, said that it was a stray dog.

Mamta said: “The police are not registering an FIR.” The police, meanwhile called officials living on the campus to the police station for questioning. Agriculture Development Officer Mahesh Chandra, who was among those summoned for questioning, said: “BDO saheb had taken in two stray dogs. One of them has gone missing and we have been brought to the police station for questioning.”

Earlier this month, a 19-year-old girl from Meerut killed herself by jumping off a water tank after a stray dog she used to feed regularly got injured and died.

Meanwhile, the Noida Authority on Saturday issued new guidelines for pet owners. In case of a mishap caused by a pet, such as an attack, the owners will have to pay a penalty of Rs 10,000. The decision was taken in the 207th board meeting of the Noida authority in accordance with the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).

Under the new policy, pet owners will have to register their pets by January 31, 2023, or a fine will be imposed in case of non-registration. Pet dogs must be sterilised or be given anti-rabies vaccination timely, in case of violation a fine of Rs 2000 is imposed every month from March 1, 2023.

"In case of any untoward incident due to pet dog/cat, treatment of injured person/animal will be done by the owner of the pet dog along with the imposition of fine of Rs 10,000 from March 1, 2023," it added.
