Supreme Court To Hear Manish Sisodia's Bail Plea On Thursday
A 3-Judge bench headed will hear the plea by AAP leader, who has sought to revive an earlier petition seeking bail in Delhi excise policy cases which was disposed of by the top court.
The Supreme Court will hear the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday in a corruption case linked to the alleged excise policy "scam".
A 3-Judge bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna will hear the plea by Aam Aadmi Party leader, who has sought to revive an earlier petition seeking bail in Delhi excise policy cases which was earlier disposed of by the top court.
A Delhi court had last week extended the judicial custody of the AAP leader till July 15. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended AAP leader Sisodia's custody after he appeared in the court on the expiry of his judicial custody granted earlier.
Sisodia had then moved the Supreme Court on Monday seeking bail over delay in the commencement of the trial in the Liquor Policy case.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for the AAP leader mentioned the matter before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, pressing for an urgent hearing.
The Chief Justice had said he would look into the petition and assured Singhvi that the matter will be heard as soon as the defects are cured in the plea.
Earlier in May, the Delhi High Court had rejected the bail plea moved by Sisodia and said that the former Deputy CM fabricated and manufactured public opinion to suit his goal and subverted the process of making the excise policy by deviating from the expert committee report constituted by him. The court had made scathing observations and said that Sisodia betrayed betrayed democratic principles by breaking public's trust.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had on March 9 last year arrested him in the case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February last year for his alleged role in the "scam" and the ED arrested him in a money-laundering case stemming from the CBI FIR in March last year.
