RSS Farmer Body Holds 'Kisan Garjana' Rally At Delhi's Jantar Mantar, Seek Relief Measures

The demands include improving farmers’ working conditions as well as an increase in minimum income support.

The Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), an affiliate of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is holding a 'Kisan Garjana' rally, at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar area seeking relief measures to improve their condition.

The demand includes improving farmers’ working conditions as well as an increase in minimum income support.

Talking to the news agency ANI, All India campaign chief of BKS Raghvendra Patel said, "In the last 4 months, about 20,000 Km of foot march, 13,000 Km cycle rallies, and 18,000 street meetings, including large gatherings at Southern State Telangana and Madhya Pradesh of Central India, were organised across the country by BKS, after which this mega rally has been organised at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan today."

"This rally has been organised on four major demands, which are, first, remunerative price should be implemented on the basis of cost and should be ensured, secondly, GST should be abolished on all types of agricultural inputs, thirdly, there should be a substantial increase in the 'Kisan Samman Nidhi', a Central Sector scheme with 100 percent funding from Government of India that give farmers up to Rs 6,000 per year as minimum income support. Fourth, permission for Genetically Modified (GM) crops should be withdrawn," Patel added.

The protest will continue till 6 in the evening. A traffic advisory has also been issued by the Delhi Police for the general public as traffic movement is likely to remain affected in parts of central Delhi.

According to an advisory by the Delhi Police, around 50,000 to 55,000 people are likely to arrive at the ground in 700 to 800 buses, and 3,500 to 4,000 private vehicles, reported PTI.

According to the advisory, the diversion points are Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Marg, Mirdard Chowk, Minto Road, Ajmeri Gate, Chaman Lal Marg, Delhi Gate, JLN Marg, roundabout Kamala Market to Hamdard Chowk, Bhavbhuti Marg and Paharganj Chowk.

Traffic restrictions, regulations, or diversion may be imposed on Ranjeet Singh flyover from Barakhamba Road to Guru Nanak Chowk, from Minto Road to roundabout Kamla Market, Vivekanand Marg, JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk), the advisory added.

The traffic police tweeted an advisory saying, "On the occasion of Kisan Garjana Rally, being organised at Ramleela Ground on 19.12.22, elaborate traffic arrangements have been made. Citizens are advised to plan their commute accordingly."

As commuters going to New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Nizamuddin Railway Stations and Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) could encounter delays, they should plan their travel accordingly, the advisory said.
