'Receiving Death Threats': Wankhede Writes To Mumbai Police Chief, Seeks Protection

Wankhede pens a formal letter addressed to the Mumbai police commissioner regarding this matter and made a plea to seek protection.

Sameer Wankhede, the ex-chief of NCB Mumbai who is facing allegations of bribery in a cruise drug bust case, alleged on Monday that he and his spouse have been threatened with death over the past few days. Wankhede pens a formal letter addressed to the Mumbai police commissioner regarding this matter and made a plea to seek protection, news agency ANI reported.

"My wife Kranti Redkar & I are receiving threats for the last 4 days and obscene messages coming on social media. I will write to Mumbai Police Commissioner today about it and demand special security," he stated.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against four individuals, including Wankhede, for criminal conspiracy and extortion threats in connection with the alleged demand for a bribe of Rs 25 crore from actor Shah Rukh Khan. The investigation also includes provisions related to bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act, as the case involves accusations regarding the Cordelia cruise drug bust and the possible implication of Khan's son, Aryan.

According to the IRS official, he and his wife Kranti Redkar have been subjected to death threats and derogatory messages on various social media platforms for the past four consecutive days, PTI reported.

The First Information Report filed against Wankhede and four others originated from a report by Gyaneshwar Singh, a former Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) who led a team tasked with conducting a specific investigation.

Recently, Wankhede claimed that the reason for the lodging of FIR against him was his previous complaint against Singh with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

He claimed that Singh subjected him to degradation and mistreatment during an investigation due to his affiliation with a backward community.

The individual from the IRS also made an appeal to the Bombay High Court to annul the CBI's First Information Report against them.

On Monday, Wankhede's interim protection from any form of compulsion, such as detention, was prolonged by the HC until June 8.
