Ranchi Violence: Jharkhand Police Release Posters Of Accused, Urge People To Help Identify Them
Ranchi Violence: The posters were put up with the names and addresses of the accused at major intersections of the city
Jharkhand Police on Tuesday put up hoardings with the photographs of those allegedly involved in the Ranchi violence last week over controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad and urged people to help identify them. The posters were put up with the names and addresses of three dozen miscreants at major intersections of the city, PTI reported.
The violence left two people dead and over two dozen injured. The police move comes a day after Governor Ramesh Bais summoned senior officers of the state, including DGP Neeraj Sinha, and asked them to identify the miscreants and put their photographs in public places.
"We have released photographs of people involved in the violence, seeking public support for their identification. Several suspects have been detained so far," Jharkhand Police spokesperson and IG (Operations) Amol Homkar told PTI.
The pictures of the accused were captured in CCTV, video and drone cameras during stone-pelting and vandalism that took place last week, IANS reported. The contact numbers of police officials and rewards for providing information about the whereabouts of the miscreants were mentioned in the posters.
So far, 15 people have been arrested in connection with the violence and more than 1,000 unknown people have been made accused. More than 40 people have also been questioned by police, IANS reported.
Police have also taken preventive action under Section 107 against 155 people. A total of 26 FIRs have been registered so far in this case, in which more than 50 people have been named.
Meanwhile, the situation in violence-hit areas of Ranchi has started returning normal. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 are still in force in five police station areas of the city -- Daily Market, Doranda, Hindpiri, Doranda, Lower Bazar and Kotwali.
