Ram Bhakt Gopal's Bail Plea Rejected, Court Calls Him 'More Harmful Than COVID'

Gurugram court has refused bail to Rambhagat Gopal in the alleged communal speech case. This is the same person who fired a gun during the protest in Delhi.

Gurugram: The court has rejected the bail plea of Ram Bhakt Gopal, accused of making provocative and communal speeches at a maha panchayat in Haryana.

Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sagir said in strong words that those who give such communally charged speeches and create confusion are more harmful to the country than the COVID pandemic.

Ram Bhakt Gopal is the same person who fired a pistol during the protests in the Jamia area against CAA-NRC in Delhi. He is a resident of Jewar, Greater Noida.

What did the court say in the order?
The Gurugram court, while pronouncing its order on Ram Bhakt Gopal's bail plea, said, "Abusive language based on religion or caste has become fashionable nowadays and the police also seem helpless in dealing with such incidents. Such people who are trying to spread hatred are actually doing more damage to this country than the pandemic".

Notably, Gopal was arrested when he allegedly used derogatory language targeting a particular religious community. It is alleged that he used provocative language to kidnap girls of a particular religious community and incite that community's people.

In another video, Gopal took ownership of his speech and reiterated the call for violence.

At the time of the violent incident in the Jamia area, Gopal was 17-years-old, a minor and hence was sent to 14-day protective custody by the Juvenile Justice Board in Delhi.
